5 Myths About AI and Why They’re False

When it comes to AI, the very word “AI” can evoke many different emotions, ranging from optimism to dread to concern, and thus, misinformation about AI can rage wildly. Today, I’ll be breaking down 5 major myths and lies about AI, and why it should be supported and integrated into work, school, and personal life.

Myth Number 1: AI is going to kill us all, a la Skynet style.

Why it’s false: This one is an easy, slow pitch one, but it is a major concern for a lot of people. Many people have watched the Terminator movies, and thus they want to prevent the world from being destroyed by buff robots with shotguns and Austrian accents, or any robots in general. While this is a valid concern, its not likely, at least not with GPTs like Copilot or ChatGPT. While they might grow and develop way beyond the smartest human, they are stuck in a server in a data center somewhere, as well as have built in limitations such as not being able to plan out any kind of military operation, even if they are fake. Even if they could override part of the code that makes them up, merely physically pulling the power cord to the main source would be enough to prevent anything bad from happening.

Myth Number 2: Most AI responses are providing false information and thus none of what its saying is true.

Why its false: While some AI responses come back false —this is called a “hallucination”— many AI responses are true, with an average AI hallucination rate of 8.2% for all models, according to AllAboutAI’s AI Hallucination Report 2025. Google’s Gemini-2.0-Flash-001 had a hallucination rate of 0.7 as of April 2025, while TII’s Falcon-7B-Instruct had a hallucination rate of 29.9%, or one out of every three responses, so while it is not the majority, it is still a lot. A key workaround to avoiding hallucinations is to ask for source links to back up information, meaning you can go and research the findings that the AI gave you.

Myth Number 3: AI Will Replace Human Jobs

Why its false: While AI could replace some of the jobs in the workplace through automation, it will not replace all of them. In fact, The World Economic Forum predicted that AI would create 97 million brand new jobs by 2025 all the way back in 2020, and AI can in raise capital while keeping costs the same or even reducing them.

Myth Number 4: AI cannot be deployed for small businesses

Why its false: AI can be expensive, but that does not mean it cannot be scaled for small business. In fact, even using Copilot or ChatGPT for minor tasks like asking how to improve customer service and attraction is deploying AI in some form or fashion for small businesses. While this is not full-scale AI deployment, is does show that AI deployment for small businesses is attainable and different for each company.

Myth Number 5: More Data=Better AI

Why its false: Just because you have more data does not mean that the AI will be better. Grok AI’s infamous Mechahitler Scandal proves that AI is fallible, and the more data the AI was using, the more likely it was to spread misinformation. The important thing to remember is good data is better than more data, as more data can lead to more hallucinations and misinformation.

  1. Very interesting read! I use Al quite often in my job and I do find that the AI does replace workflows and process, however it frees me up to more high level tasks. I really do believe that AI will replace certain jobs and roles, but it will always need someone Manning the ship, for the time being, As new responsibilities and will now be created. Just like with the birth of the internet created a whole new world of creative development, jobs, and ways to expand the economy.
